Current students who are in good standing (GPA 3.0 or higher, fulfilling curriculum requirements, and meeting with advisors regularly) are eligible to receive a small stipend up until the end of their fourth year. Second and third-year students are encouraged to research and apply for fellowships to fund their dissertation research.
PhD students have the opportunity to gain experience in both teaching and research by working as Graduate Student Instructors or Researchers. Appointments may be found in the School of Public Health or other departments and schools on campus such as Political Science, Public Policy, Economics, and Haas School of Business. These appointments pay a stipend as well as the majority of the semester fees. The HSPA Program will pay the remaining fee remission, however there is a deadline to get the paperwork completed in order for the fees to be paid for by the appointment. Students who are interested in GSI or GSR appointments should plan to secure a position one semester beforehand. Contact the Program Manager and speak with your advisor to discuss the available options.
